What do you for Mother's Day? Do you go shopping? Go out for dinner? Have brunch at your favorite Mexican place? Make enchiladas and pancakes for breakfast? Or do you do have a carne asada at your local park?
For Mother's Day, I offer a promotion for a 15-minute family photoshoot. I love the idea of spending a Sunday afternoon with the family at a park. You get 15 minutes of taking pictures, and then stay to walk around, play soccer with your kids or take more pictures with your iPhone.
Rosemary, a friend from high school, saw my Mother's Day Promotion on Instagram and booked a session. These are her photos.

Family Portraits at Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale, AZ
For this family photo shoot, we went to Sahuaro Ranch Park. It's located by Glendale Community College. I like hosting family photo session at this local park due to its flower garden. Well, it's more of a rose garden. I like it.
Destiny's First Communion Portraits at Anthem Park
The week after Rosemary's family session, her little sister did her first communion. For this photo session, we went to Anthem Park. It's about a 40-minute drive north of Downtown Phoenix.

What did I do differently?
For both photo sessions, I used my Canon 50mm lens and tried new poses. Before, I used to use my zoom lens, my Canon 24-70mm. I liked having the ability to zoom in and out. However, after a while, I compared my portraits and noticed that the 50mm take sharper pictures. One of the pros of using a prime lens.
As for poses and composition, it's something that I've been testing. I noticed that I've been doing the same poses with the same composition for every session. My galleries looked the same. Boring. So, I'm trying new poses - ones that will capture the personality of the girls. And for composition, making sure I"m taking advantage of the landscape. Sahuaro Ranch Park and Anthem Park have beautiful scenery.
What did I learn from photographing this family session?
During both sessions, I took action shots. By having Rosemary's family walking and twirling brought out their smiles. Destiny loved her first communion dress, she was happy to show it off.
Personal Note from the Author:
Sometimes I wish life would just be simple, care-free and wrapped up neatly with a bow. But alas, it doesn’t work that way and we shouldn’t want it to. In my experience, the best things in life come unexpectedly. And you learn what you're capable of.
When I first started my business, I made tons of mistakes and didn't know ANYthing about building a business, but through all the twists and turns, it brought me to where I am today and I wouldn’t trade my journey for the world!
Keep going, friend!
