There’s No One Way to Celebrate a Quinceañera
Everyone dreams of their quinceañera in their own way—and every family celebrates a quinceañera differently too. Some go all out with big venues, traditional dances, and a full party timeline. Others keep it more simple and intimate, and that’s exactly what made Valeria’s day so special.

Valeria’s quinceañera was heartfelt, joyful, and focused on what really mattered—capturing memories and celebrating with the people she loves most.
She had two beautiful portrait sessions. The first one happened before her quince day, and the goal was to create a stunning wall portrait to showcase during her celebration. The second session took place on the actual day of her quinceañera, where we took photos with her friends, her sister, and later with her family during the party.
This is actually a really popular way to plan quince portraits. I call the first one a “pre-quince session”—it’s just the quinceañera, mom, and me, usually at a park or a scenic location, taking our time to create something truly beautiful. Then on the day of the event, we do more fun and candid shots, usually at a park with friends and then with family at the party.
It’s the best of both worlds—and gives you a variety of memories to include in your album, display at the event, and keep for years to come.
Pre-Quince Session at Sahuaro Ranch Park
Valeria’s pre-quince session took place at Sahuaro Ranch Park, one of the most requested spots here in Phoenix—and for good reason. It has that dreamy charm with its rose garden and open green spaces. While the rose garden is usually a big highlight, this session happened during the fall, so the blooms weren’t quite in season. But honestly? It didn’t even matter.
We found a beautiful open field that was glowing during golden hour. The soft light of the sunset gave her photos this warm, romantic feel that turned out perfectly. That portrait became her featured wall art—and at her celebration, it was proudly displayed right next to the cake table. It wasn’t a giant print, but trust me, it looked amazing. It tied everything together and added such a personal touch to her event.
Doing a pre-quince session like this is such a smart move for any quinceañera. It gives us time to focus just on the birthday girl—no rush, no distractions, just her in the spotlight. Valeria showed up relaxed and confident. She felt beautiful, and it really shows in every image.
Another bonus? These sessions are the perfect time to do a test run for the xv dress, makeup, and hair. Valeria got to see how everything looked on camera—and it helped her feel even more prepared for her big day.
Day-of Quince Portraits at Anthem Community Park 💖
On the day of Valeria’s quinceañera, we didn’t do the “getting ready” part that many quince girls include. Instead, we jumped right into the fun—a portrait session at Anthem Community Park with her damas (four of her closest friends) and her sister.
This park is one of my favorite places to shoot because of the gorgeous waterfall and the beautiful lake nearby—it’s seriously a dream for portraits!
My process is always the same: we start with solo portraits of the quinceañera. After all, it’s her day—she deserves to shine first. Valeria looked stunning, and her confidence showed in every shot.
Once we wrapped up her solo portraits, we brought in the group for some fun, relaxed, and silly moments. Some of my favorite moments come from these group shots! Whether it’s with her damas, chambelanes, siblings, or just close friends, group photos let the quinceañera be herself—goofy, playful, confident, and totally in the moment.
These photos are a chance to make memories with the people who’ve walked through life with her, especially during this season. I love including a little runway-style walk, some natural laughs, and a mix of posed and candid shots. They’re fun, they show real connection, and they bring out so much personality.
This kind of session is always a blast. It captures a side of the quinceañera that’s often overlooked—the goofy, confident, playful side. It’s a moment where she can just be a teenager: laughing with her friends, hugging her sister, posing like a queen, or even being a little extra (and we love that).
Photos like these show the personality and the bonds between everyone involved. It’s fun, it’s memorable, and it’s so worth it.
A Beautiful Backyard Quinceañera Celebration 💙
After our fun session at the park, I joined Valeria and her family at their home for a cozy backyard celebration. It was small, intimate, and filled with love.
Valeria didn’t have a big reception or the traditional dances—but honestly, she didn’t need any of that to feel special. Her family showed up for her in the most meaningful way. Her mom made the food, the backyard was beautifully decorated with a soft blue color scheme, and everything felt so personal and thoughtful.
There was a special area set up just for portraits, and we definitely took advantage of it! We captured family photos that I know will be treasured for years.
At the end of it all, Valeria received a custom quinceañera album filled with her favorite moments from both the pre-session and the celebration. She also chose a beautiful wall quince portrait that now hangs proudly in her home—a reminder of such a joyful milestone and all the love that surrounded her that day.
Planning a Quinceañera? This Might Help
How’s your quinceañera planning going? If you’re still figuring out how to organize the big day—from getting ready in the morning to traditions like the father-daughter dance—I’ve created a free blog post that outlines a sample quince timeline. Every celebration is different, but this outline is a great starting point to build your own custom day.
Each page tells the story of her day—from the park session to her backyard celebration.
If you’re wondering whether it’s worth booking a pre-quince session or setting aside time to take photos at the park on the day of the quince…
It absolutely is.
✨ A pre-quince session gives your daughter time to shine before the chaos of the big day. It’s a chance to test out hair, makeup, the dress—and create a portrait to proudly display at the event.
✨ A day-of park quince session with friends is just as important. It lets her be herself, laugh, pose, and make memories with the people who’ve walked with her through this season of life. These are the moments that add variety and personality to her quince album—and give you more options when choosing a wall portrait to display and pass down.
